THE FAIR WORK BILL-

WHAT WILL IT MEAN FOR NOT-FOR-PROFIT SECTOR EMPLOYERS?

Australia’s employment landscape is about to change yet again with the introduction of the Labor governments Fair Work legislation.

The new legislation set to be in place in totality by 1 January 2010 has some aspects which will take effect as early as 1 July this year.

The Federal Government has declared that the new legislation will bring fairness into the workplace benefiting both employees and employers, through a recognition of workplace rights and provisions which will eliminate conflict and recognise the importance of work-life balance.

While the legislation will operate in the federal jurisdiction, it is a stated priority of the Federal government to bring about uniformity across all States and this is likely to have an impact on organisations who operate under State based awards and legislation.

So what does it all mean?
