MollyI saw an ad in the paper for Youth Council and mum said that would be a cool thing to do.
I put in an application and had an interview. It wasn’t that scary, just some random questions and a few important ones.
I was on the Youth Council for two years and then last year I mentored the new youth councillors.
The youth councillors’ role is to promote the YHQ youth services and to get the youth voice of Ballarat out. We provide advice to the senior council and I think they are definitely taking on board what the youth council tell them.
We organised the first youth recognition awards. It was exciting getting it all organised and coming off without a hitch, and it continuing as well. The awards have now become a yearly event.
The relationship we have with the youth workers, like Larelle, is great. We know them really well. They are just there to facilitate, let us know what we can and can’t do if it gets to that point, and just making sure we do what needs to be done.
