After finishing an arts degree I decided I wanted to study social work.  I needed a job I could do part-time while I studied.  I found work with Impact Support Services in Oakleigh that provides recreational support to people with neurological disorders who want to participate in their community, do recreational activities, go on holidays, but who need support to do that.

I find it very necessary to develop trust and rapport with the person you are supporting, and to keep up the continuity, because it’s no good for the participant or the worker to keep changing.

At the end of 2006 I started being a support worker for Connie who has MS - multiple sclerosis.

Connie receives funding from the organisation and she chooses how she would like to spend it.  The support she receives and when is flexible so together we work out times that work for both of us.  Recently we went to see a performance of Shout at the Arts Centre, and we are planning a short holiday soon.

Working together has been very rewarding for each of us.
