I am here at East Wimmera Health Services because I do something I like – caring for people who can no longer live without help.

My early training as a personal care assistant serves me well these days because I am able to care for older people, like Marion, whose wisdom and courage really gets to me.

I use a special lifting machine sometimes to help the bed-ridden out of bed, then shower, dress them and make sure they sit down safely for breakfast each morning.  I like the morning shift.

Retaining each person’s dignity is important, as well as keeping the brain active with trivial pursuit contests, scrabble, card games and  so on.

We go for drives, maybe even visiting a farm in the country which my husband runs, for a cup of tea.

My daily joy is to improve quality of life, and make certain these people stay as safe and comfortable as possible.

Yes, it’s a job, but it’s also an interest.  If I didn’t work here I’d be a volunteer.  I’d come up and read to people.  I am not a very sporting person, this is what I like doing. I am a people person.
