Back in the Philippines I used to be a lecturer in anthropology and sociology.  I’ve also been a Director of a centre for social concern working for communities, and an international election observer, all things that I saw would make me fit to work with multicultural communities.

I am the Cultural Development Officer of the North East Multicultural Association, which serves the rural cities of Benalla, Wangaratta, and the Shires of Alpine, Indigo and Mansfield.

Basically, we look at how we can assist the needs of multicultural communities, for example we have just launched a project to train ten people from Italian, German and Dutch communities in Wangaratta and Alpine Shire, to become peer facilitators, who will consult with these communities to find out what aged care services they need.

My work, it’s about engaging communities, and in my own little way trying to transform the lives of people. For me, it is very fulfilling.

If you love people, and you want to be of assistance to others, then community development work should be for you.
