Community Careers Banner

Watching instructors at the gym where I train – I am a champion power lifter – inspired me.  Now I have a diploma of fitness nearly finished, and from a hobby, a job I love and would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

My role is as an exercise facilitator for Bendigo Community Health Services, working mainly with people in their sixties and seventies, where it is very important to take on strength training.

I facilitate a walking group. One of the participants is Bill. We first look at each person’s background, then they join, and off we go walking around the lake.

We also do bus trips, and coffee mornings, so there definitely is a most important social side to it all.

There are some problems shared, some people are not as fit as they seem, but my job is to keep them orderly, keep them walking, keep them smiling.

They are my inspiration.  I hope I can be as fit as they are when I get to their age.  And I know they appreciate me, because at the last National Championships I competed in, they teamed up and made this huge banner – a great surprise!  It’s all just so good!
