The Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) has applauded the State Government’s commitment to support regional community organisations through a new training program announced today.
‘Today’s announcement of a $275,000 Rural and Regional Training and Support program will provide a welcome boost to regional community organisations,’ says Cath Smith, VCOSS CEO.
‘Regional community organisations face particular challenges and this program will deliver face to face training sessions with access to follow up telephone support.’
‘Training will focus on Governance and Legal Responsibilities, Finance and Funding and Operational support, all of which are crucial issues in regional areas.’
‘It is fitting that the announcement was made by Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Community Development, before the Framing the Future forum at the State Library today.’
‘Big thinkers and community leaders will gather to explore and debate the pressing social issues facing Victoria.’
‘Victorians want to see solutions to the big problems like housing affordability, climate change, social justice, sustainability, urban sprawl and lack of services in rural communities.’
The Framing the Future forum is on 11am - 4pm, 26 August 2010, State Library Theatrette, Cnr La Trobe St & Swanston St, Melbourne.
