State Budget 2011-12: Transport analysis

Public transport has received significant attention in this budget, with more than $400 million of new resources allocated. This compares to road spending of over $600 million. The Government has almost exclusively focussed on the train system at the neglect of buses, which are particularly important for outer suburban and regional Victorians. VCOSS particularly welcomes the $20 million for accessible transport improvements, although this is not enough to ensure that the system will reach legal accessibility milestones. VCOSS remains concerned that no resources or attention has been given to other transport alternatives, such as community transport or the Multi-Purpose Taxi Program.
