Community sector strengthening
VCOSS is committed to building a strong sector that can lead social change. VCOSS works to support and strengthen the community services sector by coordinating sector advocacy activities, securing resources to ensure both sector sustainability and improved training and development opportunities.
VCOSS’ work in community sector strengthening seeks to achieve these objectives:
- a more organisationally efficient and effective community sector and a safer and more attractive place to work;
- a collaborative community sector that brings its strengths to an increasing number of effective partnerships with government and business; and
- a more strategic community sector with increased capacity for effective advocacy for social change
VCOSS collaborates with other community sector peak bodies and organisations, as well as business and pro-bono providers to develop projects to fulfil these organisational objectives.
One benefit for smaller community organisations of membership of VCOSS is access to free training; another is being networked in the sector and getting links to skilled volunteers and training and development opportunities through the Training and Development Clearinghouse.
VCOSS engages in a broad range of projects and partnerships, and opportunities that arise from this work are available to community organisations and people working within them. All VCOSS’ community sector strengthening projects and initiatives are listed in the menu on the left hand side of this page – follow the links to find out more.
