Housing

housingMost housing, as well as public spaces and buildings in Victoria are inaccessible to people with disabilities, excluding people from the opportunity to work or access the public resources that most people take for granted.

The shortage of housing suitable for people with disabilities or who are frail and ageing is a critical problem. In Victoria, there is no regulation to require new housing to be accessible for people with disabilities or limited mobility. In collaboration with disability advocacy groups, and as part of our broader policy and advocacy work on housing accessibility, VCOSS lobbies the State Government to introduce regulations to make housing accessible, and to take action on improving access to public and commercial premises for people of all abilities.
