Making human rights real: Victorian workshops translate human rights into practice
The Australian Centre of Human Rights Education at RMIT University, the Victorian Local Governance Association and the Victorian Council of Social Service hosted a series of participatory workshops across Victoria in 2011 to facilitate people’s understanding of human rights, the relevance of human rights to everyday life and to provide the tools to develop a human rights based approach to service delivery and policy development in their organisation.
The Making Human Rights Real workshops were held in response to the Australian Government identifying the importance of human rights education and were designed for both the community and local government sectors - for management, service delivery workers, board members, councillors, advocates and members of vulnerable groups.
The workshops were held across Victoria from August – November, 2011, in Geelong, Springvale, Melton, Mildura, Bendigo, Traralgon, Wangaratta, Warrnambool, Melbourne CBD, Ballarat and Bairnsdale.

AUSTRALIAN HUMAN RIGHTS FRAMEWORK RESOURCES
A guide to the Australian Human Rights Framework has been produced by the Federal Attorney-General’s Department.
While designed for public servants, the guide remains relevant for community sector organisations, local councillors, staff of Local Government and members of the community. Download In Our Hands (PDF).
